CVS: Discovered Treasure ~ Wk of 6/21/09 - 6/27/09

Discovered Treasure ~ Rush to your nearest CVS/Pharmacy store! Always Infinity pads (28 ct. or greater) regularly priced at $10.79 each are scanning at $4.99 a box. This is an unadvertised sale so the shelves are not labeled at the lower price.

To be sure, you should scan the box first at the little red "price check" box. Use the $4.00/1 off coupon 6/7/09 PG (exp 7/31/09) and pay only $0.99 per box (YMMV = your mileage may vary). This deal is likely only available through Saturday, June 27th, so make sure to get them while you can. Talk about a necessary stockupity!!

Treasures of Saving$: Wal-Mart Trip 6/21/09

It’s been my goal to share my personal weekly deals and steals with you. A site I frequently visit, A Full Cup, has a contest this month. The AFC Super Saver Contest challenges shoppers to spend a minimum of $25 (before coupons) in one transaction with a savings of 80% or more. Submit your entries weekly through July 26th (see AFC for more details). Well, I decided to take on the challenge.

It would’ve helped if I had read and reread the rules. I neglected to follow the first rule: “spend” just “$25 (before coupons)”. For some reason, I thought I had to spend $25 after coupons. So this turned out to be a bit more time consuming than I thought it should. Even still, I was able to score some great deals. These are items I will definitely use and/or need.

Our True Treasure: A Loving Father

Hope Father’s day was as fulfilling for you and your family as it was for us. To begin, Hubby got to climb back into bed (he’s an early-bird and I had to talk him out of mowing a family member’s lawn so he could be “pampered” for a change) and read the newspaper while waiting for breakfast.

After the morning feast was ready - - actually, it’s our regular Sunday spread of whole wheat blueberry pancakes, cream of wheat, hash browns, fresh fruit salad and orange juice - - the kiddos and I shared their gifts with him. As mentioned in a previous post, I “helped” my daughter and son craft father’s day cards. We also took advantage of Michael’s Get Hooked on Dad event and “designed” a t-shirt for him. He was very happy with all the doting and then immediately got down to business enjoying his breakfast.

Hubby filled his tummy and then took a nice long nap, undisturbed for the most part, just like a hibernating bear. Gotta love him! Then, he proceeded with his plans for the rest of the day: take Liv to see the movie “Up”. Though I thought it was a great idea, I have to admit I was a bit jealous. Not because he didn’t offer to take me instead or take me along. No, no. It was because this would now guarantee his nomination for the “best parent” award from Liv. You see, as is often the case in so many other homes, I’m the “evil mom” while he get’s to be the “best dad”. It’s all good though. Hubby is, in fact, a great DAD!

To top off the day, Hubby took the kiddos to get ice cold Quick Trip slushies after a hot evening outside washing my vehicle. This was the icing on the cake in Liv’s book. She keeps mentioning how this was the best Father’s Day ever. No doubt, she nearly forgot we were suppose to “celebrate Dads" today. Bless her little heart!

Michaels Stores: Father's Day Craft Ideas & Events

Just in the nick of time (Father’s Day is Sunday June 21st), I received an email from Michaels Stores with great Father’s Day craft gift ideas. By subscribing to Michaels newsletter, "The Knack", I receive creative tips and step-by-step instructions to help the kiddos with craft projects. I’m using the word “help” very loosely because well, let’s just say, I’m not a creative person so I’ve been on a steep learning curve for some years now. Thankfully, these are simple and inexpensive crafts which are perfect for this creatively-challenged yet frugal mom.

And since my daughter has been making suggestions about what she’d like to do for her Dad for Father’s Day, she was thrilled to see the suggestions I downloaded right from Michaels website. She’s fully on board to make the Father’s Day Shirt & Tie Card and I figure my son will be just as satisfied creating the Father’s Day Tool Box for his Dad.

Plus, this Sunday, June 14th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Michaels is offering a “Get Hooked on Dad” event. For just $2.50, kids can purchase a t-shirt and use free art supplies to showcase their creative talents just for Dad. This should be really fun!
